General Physiotherapy Discussion
Cramps

Hi, I had come across a case where a 20yr old female got hypoglycaemic followed by severe cramps in both legs. On glucose administration..the bsl level came to normal..but the cramps persisted for around 2-3hrs. She was just asked to take rest. What could have been done in such a case? I know this is a very silly question i have asked..but i wanted to know if a physiotherapist could help in such a minor situation also?

Jumper's knee/ patellar ligament tendinitis

Hi! I've been trying to find info on jumper's knee (protocols, etiology etc), but this has proven difficult. Does anyone know a good treatment protocol for jumper's knee. I've had this condition myself for one year (palpatory & movement pain at the insertion of patellar ligament on patella). All I can think of is vastus medialis and hamstrings training. Any suggestions anyone? Moreover, does anyone know if the term "jumper's knee" is used to refer to a condition resulting from a tear in the Pat. lig OR overuse inflammation OR both OR something else? Would the term "tendinitis" cover the condition better? Any references on the topic are more than welcome! posted by jarmo

Information on physio's role in the organ transplant setting

Hi, I'm a final year student and some of my classmates and I have been handed the task of putting together a 3hr lecture on organ transplant. We are going to cover all types but heart and lung are going to be the bulk of the lecture. We would appreciate any information on where to find this and any clinical knowledge people wish to share. We're also hoping to produce an on-call 'survival guide' for our classmates and any suggestions on its content would be great. Thanks, Mark

Musculoskeletal/Outpatients
Cyriax

Hi, Could someone help me? I was on the first part of Cyriax course (functional evaluation and treatment of the upper limbs). Soon, in my country will be part two - spine treatment. I don't like Deep Friction and I wouldn't go on the part two if they do DF for the spine. It is too much expensive to pay for the course and after that don't use new knowledge. The question is: does Cyriax treatment for the spine include mobilization, manipulations or just deep friction? Best wishes to all!

Fitness Assessments for clients with learning disabilities

Hello I am a physio working with adult clients with learning disabilities. I am hoping that people have information on fitness assessments and how they carry them out with our clients. I would also like to know how you have been able to direct on clients to mainstream sporting activities, if any exist and if you have set up some and how you did that. I would be grateful for any tips. Thank you
